TOKYO, September 29, 2009 –Fuji Xerox Co., Ltd. launches its “One Company, One Theme Movement” to protect biodiversity on Oct. 1, across all of its affiliated companies, both inside and outside Japan.
This program encourages employees of all group companies to unite in undertaking social contribution activities that best meet the needs of their local country or region under the common theme of biodiversity protection.
By sharing best practices and expertise in different countries and regions within Fuji Xerox and affiliated companies across Japan and Asia Pacific, the One Company, One Theme Movement aims to raise awareness among both management and employees that biodiversity protection is of immediate concern in our daily lives. The program also seeks to advance the concrete action being taken to protect biodiversity from a casual to a continuing basis.
In FY2009, the initial year of the program, an infrastructure is being organized to share those activities already in operation at each site and company throughout the group via Intranet, meetings and other means.
As an example of one of the current ongoing activities inside Japan, several sales companies are contributing to developing local “Satoyama,” where arable land is nurtured amidst mountainous terrain, as well as to tree-planting activities led by local governments. Among the wide-ranging activities led by overseas sales companies is contribution to tree planting by Fuji Xerox (Thailand), and Fuji Xerox Taiwan’s wetland protection activities.
Efforts in biodiversity protection made by Fuji Xerox through its business so far include enforcement of the Environmental, Health and Safety Requirements for Paper Procurement Note 1 in 2004, and establishing products/consumables recycling sites in Japan, Thailand and China Note 2. Through the One Company, One Theme Movement, Fuji Xerox will expand social contribution activities that have been sporadically conducted in individual countries and regions into universal activities across the Fuji Xerox companies, realizing the protection of biodiversity through both its global business and voluntary activities.
